What Is Img2pixel?

Img2pixel is a powerful, browser-based tool that instantly converts any image to pixel art. With support for both fixed and custom color palettes, you can transform photos, pictures, illustrations, or screenshots into beautiful retro-style pixel graphics — all processed locally in your browser with no uploads or server-side processing.

What image formats can I upload?

Supported formats include JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, AVIF and WebP.
You can upload an image in two ways:
  • Drag and drop it into the upload area
  • Click “Select File” and choose one from your computer

How Do Pixelation Settings Work?

Convert your image to pixel art with full control:

Pixel Size: Sets how large each pixel block appears. Higher values create bigger, chunkier pixels.
Color Count: Defines how many colors are used when Auto (K-Means) is selected — typically 8, 16, or 32.
Dithering: Adds pattern-based blending to simulate extra colors and smoother gradients.
Grid: Use the “Show Grid” checkbox to overlay pixel borders. You can also customize grid color and opacity.

What palette options are available?

You can apply different palette types to control how your image to pixel output looks:
  • Auto (K-Means): Extracts dominant colors from your image
  • Built-in Palettes: Includes PICO-8, GameBoy, NES, Lost Century, Arne16, DB16, Sweetie16, Endesga32
  • Custom Upload: Load your own .gpl, .json, or .pal files
  • Lospec Import: Enter a slug (e.g. arq4) or paste a URL from Lospec.com. For detailed steps, see the next question below.
  • Manual Palette: Click “+ Add Color” to build your palette manually.

How do I import a palette from Lospec?
